Gambia’s Finance and Economic Minister Abdou Colley, has resigned from the Jammeh government with immediate effect, Freedom Radio Gambia can reveal. Mr. Colley tendered his resignation letter today.

A source writing to us from Banjul, said: “ Pa, it has been confirmed that the Minister of Finance Abdou Colley, has resigned from the government.  I am currently in Banjul pursuing the story. Colley has resigned.”

No reason has been publicly advanced for Minister Colley’s resignation. But sources said his decision to leave government has to do with the regime’s growing international isolation and lack of legitimacy. Mr. Colley has served in different portfolios in the Jammeh regime.

Meanwhile, Finance Ministry staffers at the Quadrangle have also confirmed about the Minister’s departure from the Ministry. Many resignations will follow in coming hours sources said.

Dictator Yahya Jammeh is refusing to step down. His five year term expires on January, 19th. Jammeh says he will continue to stay in office until the Supreme Court rules on his election petition. The court couldn’t sit due to late notice coming from the Gambia. Jammeh’s petition has been rescheduled for May.

Mr. Colley was contacted for comment, but his phone went on voicemail.
