Gambia: Breaking News: Barrow off to Bamako

Gambia’s President-elect Adama Barrow this evening jetted out to Bamako, Mali, where he will meet West African leaders in a bid to end the political impasse in the country.

A mediation team of ECOWAS heads of state led by Nigerian president Muhammadou Buhari spent the day in The Gambia where they met with all sides in the impasse.

No deal was reached during talks on Friday.

Barrow is now expected to meet with ECOWAS leaders who are currently attending a security summit in Bamako.

The meeting will allow the leaders to hear from Barrow, so they could take a definition action ahead of Barrow’s inauguration next week.

It is Barrow’s first overseas trip since he won last month’s general election.

He shocked outgoing president Yahya Jammeh in a poll described as the country’s tightest.

His poll win is, however, being disputed by the outgoing president who has cited fraud.
