Gambia: Breaking News: Gambia’s Information Minister Defects?

Is The Gambian Information Minister on the run? Has Sheriff Bojang, defected from the Jammeh regime days before President elect Adama Barrow’s inauguration? Well, reports reaching Freedom Radio Gambia, have it that Information Minister Sheriff Bojang, is on the run. Mr. Bojang, has been spotted in the Senegalese capital Dakar, where he joined his Godfather Amadou Samba, a former close associate of dictator Jammeh. He arrived in Dakar, sources said. It doesn’t look Bojang will return to the Gambia, as long as Jammeh is in power.

Mr. Samba, who recently claimed in an interview with a Gambian online blogger that he used to manage dictator Jammeh, played an important role in having Bojang appointed as a Minister. Samba’s boys in the regime have since started defecting. SG Sambia was last week fired from his post. Reports have it that he resigned, while the regime claimed that Samba was fired.

Mr. Bojang, was recently part of government delegation to Saudi Arabia. He jumped ship as soon as the Saudi mission ended. He is now in Senegal, closely observing the imminent fall of his boss Yahya Jammeh.

Freedom Radio Gambia contacted Mr. Bojang by phone on Sunday, but he was indisposed for comment.  One of the phone numbers of Bojang, we have on file is not working. The other number rang for some time and went to voicemail.

An additional efforts to solicit Mr. Bojang’s reaction was made via his Facebook page. We sent him a message to shed light on the story, but Bojang wouldn’t respond to our journalistic query.

The recent appoint of Seedy Njie as Jammeh’s spokesman, and press secretary clearly confirmed Bojang’s defection from the dying regime.
