The impoverished West African nation of The Gambia, has not been officially declared as a failed state by the international community, but what is evident though thousands of its citizens are dying due to illegal migration; state organized executions; torture; and enforced disappearances, Freedom Radio Gambia can reveal.
THE LOST GAMBIAN BOYS DRINKING THE GAMBIAN BREW ATTAYA
The lost Gambian boys have resurfaced in Algeria, where they have been hosted in tents together with hundreds of other African migrants. These boys flee The Gambia due to economic hardship; massive unemployment and endemic dictatorship. They are sojourning to the shores of Europe through the famous backway. Many die in the process of illegally migrating to Europe.
The government of Algeria is struggling with managing the high influx of migrants trying to use their shores to migrate to Europe. These lost Gambian boys were met at one of the migrant camps in Algeria by one of our sources. They complained about lack of food, inadequate water, lack of proper dwelling, and so forth. The lost boys are sleeping in mid shift tints.
ALGERIAN GOVERNMENT HOSTS MIGRANTS IN TENTS
Nationals from Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, and elsewhere across the African continent were met on site. Some of the Senegalese migrants were recently rescued by their government, who airlifted some of the migrants found on site.
In the case of The Gambian migrants, they told our source that they want to go home, but there was no representative from The Gambian government, who could come to their aid. The lost Gambian boys described their “backway” sojourn as risky. Some of them said if airlifted back home, they will never venture into such dangerous sojourns.
THE LOST GAMBIAN BOYS RESURFACE IN ALGERIA
The United Nations in collaboration with the UNHCR, have been working vigorously to arrest the growing menace of illegal migration to Europe. Failed governments, coupled with corrupt leaderships have been blame for the scourge.
