Economic Disaster Hits Brikama, As Businesses Collapsed

Like all markets in the country, the Brikama market too is in such a deplorable condition economically. Business is dead here in Brikama. The market has been reduced as a ghost market. Traders spent the entire day without making any sales. This country is on the brink of total collapse.

If Yahya Jammeh is not removed before the 2016 polls, more and more businesses would be closed. Inflation will triple; banks will close; workers will work for months without being paid.

A petty trader in Brikama said in addition to the declining sales businesses have been faced with, The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) is on their throats on a daily basis compelling them to pay taxes. He said the hostile tax environment is also killing the growth of the private sector.

Brikama, is an important economic region for The Gambia. It appears that the onetime economically viable West Coast region is on the verge of total economic collapse. There are few stalls at the market. The Mauritanian shop owners have moved their businesses to Senegal.
